Swimming - The Second Time Around

Despite the rough first class, Asher is now loving swim lessons. He mostly likes to splash and cruise around on the noodle. I dunked him twice during our lesson. It took me a long time to get the nerve to do it and once I did it, I wished I hadn't. Asher didn't really mind it but he did gulp down some water. A little while later he let out one of those huge, loud, I-just-swallowed-so-much-water-I-probably-was-close-to-drowning belches....you know the kind. Of course he was fine but I spent the next 24 hours worrying about dry drowning. Needless to say, Mom and Dad have decided No More Dunking!!
After Shrimp Class, we are all exhausted! Here's a pic of us relaxing a bit in the big bed.

In the Jungle

Yesterday we were having dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Lein and Asher was playing by himself in his jungle. He thought to himself, "no one is paying any attention to me so I"ll show them! What could I do to make them wish they were watching me closer?" And with that, he decided to pull himself up to a standing position for the first time ever! He had never even come close before! Grandma just happened to look over and see him standing there! We all jumped up from the table and ran over to tell him how amazing, wonderful, strong, and advanced he was. And he stood there beaming, proud as a peach! Oh, he's growing up so fast!!!
Today was another gorgeous day, especially for this time of year. Asher and I took a long walk all around Evansville to really soak it in. He had to wear a ballcap for the first time, to shield his precious face from the sun.By the time we got home he was zonked from the fresh air, which was totally adorable but bittersweet because as I type this he is in his crib refusing to sleep. He only got about 15 minutes in the stroller but apparently he thinks that was enough. Better go get him, he can sleep more later.

Our Little Shrimp

Ok, by no means is he shrimpy, but our little man is now in the Shrimp swim class at the YMCA. It's meant for 5-15 month olds but there were so few kids that the shrimp decided to combine with the eels so now it goes up to 3 years old.

Asher loves bathtime, loves other babies, and usually loves doing anything outside of the house. So swimming was a no-brainer, right? Wrong. He was the only kid in the class who cried when he got in the water. Yep, and he cried for at least half the class. But eventually he realized swimming is fun and starting splashing and kicking and making friends. Daddy swam too while Muma played paparazzi. Next week we'll trade spots.

Hopefully by the end of class he will be on par with the only girl in the class. She's taken it once before and she is so comfortable in the water she might as well be a fish. She looked younger than Ash and she was floating around (with a little help from Dad), kicking, spouting water....it was hilarious! What a cutie.
